Who am I?
Hello to those who have stumbled upon my blog page. My name is Jonathan Palomo, and as of the time of this substack’s creation I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying physics and statistics. As a purveyor of math and science I find geometry and the universe truly beautiful, however, one thing I can’t seem to get out of my head is baseball. In fact, I believe there’s a delightful and eloquent geometry to baseball that I cannot seem to find in any other sport, whether its: Mookie Betts making yet another seemingly effortless homerun, Ichiro Suzuki showing his incredible athleticism by catching an impossible home run hit in right field, or Derek Jeter flaunting his tremendous strength in his ever so iconic jump throw. It is the combination of the rules of the game and its incredible players that make baseball a beautiful game, a romance between superstars, like Suzuki and Jeter, and their spectators that can surely spawn tears in the most suspenseful of games.
So who am I? My name is Jonathan, I love baseball, and I wish to uncover the structure behind this fabulous game through a combination of sabermetrics and romance for the game.
What are my favorite teams?
I was born in Los Angeles, so I am automatically a Dodgers fan, but the other teams I follow are the Phillies, Red Sox, and Athletics. The Phillies because of superstars Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos, and I also love Philadelphia. The Red Sox, because they’re an iconic team for being one of the first teams to apply proper sabermetrics to their roster. The Athletics because of Moneyball and I love a good underdog.
